How to play a maze game

Move from the triangle at Start to the flag at Finish. Begin with 5 × 5: fewer squares make it easier to follow a route.

One square at a time

  1. Find your coral dot at Start, in the top-left corner.
  2. Move up, down, left or right through a gap. A blue wall blocks movement; diagonal moves are not allowed.
  3. Reach the flag in the bottom-right corner. You can take as many turns and wrong paths as you need.
Move right through an open passage; a wall blocks downward movement.

The dot can move right through the gap. The wall below it blocks a downward move.

Controls

With the map focused, use your keyboard’s arrow keys. On a phone, use the four direction buttons or tap a square immediately beside your dot. A distant square will not move you there.

The direction buttons remain large at every maze size. Start has a triangle, Finish has a flag, and your position is a circle. The text below the map names these marks; the current row and column are shown beside the controls.

Dead ends and hints

A dead end is part of a maze. Turn around and return to the last junction. Each maze has one direct route from Start to Finish; every square is reachable.

Show a step outlines the next square on the route from your current position to Finish. If you took a wrong branch, it first points you back out. It does not move the dot for you. The route you have walked stays visible as a pale line.

Undo takes back your last move. Restart returns to Start after confirmation and clears that maze’s moves and hint count. Moves include backtracking; there is no move target to meet.

Daily and Practice

Each size has a daily maze shared by everyone for that UTC date. A new one becomes available at 00:00 UTC. If you are still playing yesterday’s maze, you can finish it or choose Load today’s maze. Your saved daily maze stays available when you reopen. Replacing an unfinished daily asks for confirmation.

Practice lets you choose another maze. There are 32 original mazes at each size, and Daily rotates through the same collection, repeating every 32 days per size. Sizes 5 × 5, 7 × 7 and 9 × 9 each keep their own Daily and Practice progress.

Saved progress

When browser storage is available, the game saves your maze and moves on this device. Progress does not sync between devices. Clearing this site’s browser data removes its saves.

If a save cannot be read, you can keep playing a temporary game. Reading it again can restore your earlier maze after confirmation. An unreadable or newer-format save is kept until you explicitly choose to replace it.
